Pirot Receieves EU Funded COVID-19 Testing Container

As of today, Pirot is among the towns that received containers for testing on COVID-19.

These containers, each equipped with an examination bed, a table with two chairs, a non-contact thermometer, as well as equipment for removing medical and infectious waste and a waste bin, are an important segment in the overall fight against the pandemic and a prevention factor.

This is one of 100 containers loaded with European Union funds, with the help of the United Nations Office for Project Services (UNOPS). He was placed in front of the Institute of Public Health in Pirot.

The director of the Public Health Institute in Pirot, Elizabeta Aleksić, told the Beta agency that a great benefit is expected from that container because it will be able to perform triage and testing of all persons who are subject to coronavirus testing, as well as the fact that it is outside the health institution.

"That COVID clinic is fully equipped for testing all potentially infected persons employed in health care, the Ministry of the Interior, the Serbian Army, and education," said Aleksić.

Procurement and installation of containers, worth 590,000 euros, are part of the EU aid package of 4.9 million euros, signed on April 3 this year by the head of the EU Delegation to Serbia, Ambassador Sem Fabrizi, Minister for European Integration Jadranka Joksimovic and UNOPS in Serbia, Michela Telatin. This donation is also intended for the purchase of necessary medical equipment - respirators, laboratory equipment, and tests, intensive care monitors, non-contact thermometers, and protective equipment.

European Union aid package to Serbia for fighting the pandemic of COVID-19 is worth 93 million euros, and 15 million of it is dedicated for urgent medical needs.
